The Alcazar of Seville:
history, curiosities and legends
The origin of the Sevillian Alcázar is in the old citadel (al-qasbah) of Madinat Isbiliya, the Islamic Seville. Over the centuries, the palatial space has been modified and renovated until it is in unbeatable condition to this day, being considered the oldest royal palace in Europe that is still in use.
The Alcázar belongs to the Seville City Council since 1931, when it was ceded by the government of the Second Republic, and since 1993 it has been managed by the Royal Alcázar Board of Trustees. Currently, by agreement with the National Heritage, the so-called “High Royal Room” is ceded for the exclusive use of the Spanish Royal House and other heads of state. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987, along with the Cathedral and the Archivo de Indias. Entering the Reales Alcázares of Seville is entering an evocative world worthy of the best of fairy tales.
With more than fifteen hectares of palatial buildings and seven hectares of gardens, it has always stood out for its beauty and splendor. The gardens of the Alcázar are a kind of great historical botanical garden, with some 170 species from all over the world, where you can see the stylistic evolution of European gardens. As Walt Disney said at the time: “You could not have built a more beautiful and grandiose set.”
Our tours will introduce the visitor to a magical world where they can explore the different cultures that have passed through the city, contemplate the different artistic styles that have left their mark on its buildings and get lost in its evocative gardens.
If you want the easiest way to visit Seville’s top monuments in one go, our Alcazar Seville Tour is the most complete option.

EXCELLENT Based on 280 reviews Posted on М МинчеваTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My family had an absolutely wonderful experience with our guide Maria. From start to finish, she was knowledgeable, professional and genuinely passionate about sharing her expertise. Her insights brought every location to life, making the experience both educational and enjoyable. What stood out most was her friendliness, patience and willingness to answer every question with enthusiasm. She made everyone feel welcome snd ensured that the tour was engaging for all participants. Her attention to details and excellent organisation allowed us to relax and fully enjoy the experience. I am truly grateful for her dedication and kindness, and I would highly recommend Maria to anyone looking for an exceptional guide. Thank you for making our trip so special!Posted on Nathalie CastaingTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Posted on Kimon HeliotisTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I can't describe how good of a guide Maria was, a happy and funny person, and told us everything we needed to know!Posted on Şebnem Fakıoğlu TarıTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It was a really nice experience. Our guide, Lulu, was amazing and very knowledgeable. She shared information in a really balanced way without overwhelming us. I learned a lot. Thanks!Posted on GTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. What a great tour! Our guide was very good. Unfortunately I didn't write down her name, she was a short lady (in her own words:) from Sevilla with good English. We had the 11:00 tour on 28 May 2026. Firstly the plan of the tour was good. We started with the Alcazar instead of the Cathedral which had long lines of people waiting outside. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, told us a lot about history and fun facts, she was interesting and entertaining, the tour was well paced. She always found a spot in the shade or a place to sit so neither the heat nor the length of the tour was an issue. It was a very fulfilling day. The Alcazar and thr Cathedral were very impressive. We enjoyed the tour a lot! Much recommended.Posted on Shannah StockenTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Maria is fantastic. So knowledgeable and gives enough time to explore. Highly recommendPosted on Krystian BieganskiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had an incredible time exploring, all thanks to our wonderful guide, Maria! She was attentive, warm, and possessed a deep, impressive knowledge of the history at every site we visited. What we appreciated most was her perfect balance—she shared fascinating insights into local culture and gave excellent recommendations for places to visit, but she never overwhelmed us. She completely understood the assignment, giving us plenty of space and time to explore at our own pace and take pictures.Posted on Martina VološinováTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The Alcazar of Seville in Game of Thrones series
In April 2011, the HBO network premiered a television series called Game of Thrones, inspired by the series of novels ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’. What they could not imagine was the impact it would cause at a global level. In just eight years, it has become one of the mythical and cult series that has stood out, not only for its plot and audience but for its production carried out all over the world, to the point of generating exclusive tourism to visit the filming places. So, when in 2014, HBO announced Seville as the venue for the recording of the fifth season of this series, it was a real revolution.
According to one of the producers, Dan Weiss: ‘Seville is a wonderful city in a wonderful country. As I look around, I think that someone kindly designed all this for us many years ago, as if he was waiting for us to film. We could never have paid for something like this. Thanks to Carlos V for building it’. Seville became the capital of the kingdom of Dorne, and the Alcazar in The Water Gardens as a palace of the Martell dynasty, since the description of this kingdom in the books, tells us about a kingdom very similar to Al-Andalus. Thus, in the Alcázar, very important scenes were recorded for the future of the series. Plot and places such as The Ambassadors Room, the Grutescos Gallery, the Queen María Baths and others…where stories and anecdotes will be discovered by you with our guides.

Where is the meeting point?
The meeting point is at the main entrance of the Archivo de Indias (Monument located between the Alcázar and the Cathedral). The Archivo de Indias has a single interior access door, on the side facing the Avenida de la Constitución, next to the Jardines de la Lonja. We have attached a map so you can see exactly where you are.
